At what age do you take children in Lower Prep?

The admissions process to Lower Prep at BIS begins when the child is three years old, approximately twelve months before the child is admitted to the school (at approximately age four). Please always check the website for the actual eligibility criteria.

What are the dates that I must keep in mind for admissions?

Parents are made aware of the admission before the end of the same year.

What is the procedure for admissions?

The first step towards the admission process is the online registration form available on our website in July-August. Parents have to fill this form and submit it online, followed by the payment of registration fees. This is followed by form filling, where both the parents are required to be present at a given date where they come in to the school premises to fill up the form. For the IBDP applications are invited usually in the months of August and September. This form can be downloaded from our website. The form needs to be filled by the student and submitted along with the requisite documents and the registration fee at the IBDP office. Students need to appear for an entrance test. Shortlisted students are then called for a personal interaction with members of the Admissions Panel.

Can you give me more information on the assessments that are a part of the application process?

At the Lower Prep stage, there is NO testing of students. Applying for Chance Vacancies, students would be assessed in English and Math. For IBDP too, the assessment is for English and Math. We have students who come from different curriculum – national and international. No special preparation is required for this test as it helps give the school an idea about the aptitude of the student.

What about Chance Vacancies?

Chance vacancies IF ANY are put up on our website in February-March. For chance vacancies, parents fill in a form, and the child is also given a written test to assess their level for the class applied.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Can students bring lunch from home?

Lunch service offered by the school is mandatory and the charge is included in the school fee. However, exception is made if students prefer to carry lunch on certain days because of medical reasons.

Do you have residential facilities in your school?

We are a day school and do not have residential or boarding facilities.

What are the extra-curricular activities that the school offers?

BIS offers a wide variety of sports and art based extra-curricular activities on an inter-house and inter-school level. There are active sports teams available for students to join at every stage of their school journey like football, cricket etc. There are also various debate, quiz and drama competitions taking place across the academic year. Please refer to our sports, assemblies and international camps sections of the website. Apart from sports, our students are offered dance, drama, art, music - Indian and western, yoga and also training in martial arts.

How often do the parents get to meet the teachers?

The academic year begins with class-wise Parent Teacher Meetings. Open class for each grade is planned in the course of the year to review student progress on a personal level. Additionally, parents can seek appointments with individual teachers to discuss specific issues at any stage of the academic year.

Does your school offer scholarships?

Need-based scholarships are offered at any stage of the school journey.

What kind of school trips are compulsory for students? Are the charges towards such trips included in the fees?

From Grade 5 onwards all students have to compulsorily go on an educational trip. Apart from that there are yoga and art camps from Grades 9 to Grade 12. The fees do not include charges towards such trips. There are specific programs that are fully sponsored and the school follows a selection procedure for those.

ACADEMIC INFORMATION

How many students do you have in each grade? How many sections/divisions do you have in each class?

The student teacher ratio is 1: 15 for the lower grades. From Grade 6 onwards we maintain a class strength of 30 students and the class is split up for certain subjects which demand more personalized attention.

How many students do you have in your school?

Currently our school has approximately 450 students, from Lower Prep to Grade 12.

At what stage is there a streaming option for students between ICSE and IGCSE?

At present students opt for either of these Boards by the end of Grade 8. They begin the formal study according to a specific curriculum in Grade 9.

LEARNING THE BIS WAY

What is your homework policy?

Homework is used as a skill-building tool and home work for the sake of it is not encouraged. Therefore from Grade 2 students would have homework that helps them to build on self-management or research skills.

How is the assessment of the student done at various grades?

Formal exams begin only in Grade 6. Until then, assessment is done on the basis of daily class work and project work. We do not have any formal exams from Lower Prep to Grade 5. From Grade 6 to Grade 7, assessment includes tests held through the term, finally culminating into an exam at the end of the academic year. Grades 8, 9 and 10 have tests during the term, a Terminal exam and a Final exam.

Do students take tuitions after school?

We do not encourage students to take tuitions. The personalized attention (small class sizes) and extra support given from the school generally suffice. However, when students have special needs that need support at home as well, the faculty personally counsels parents to take necessary steps.

Do you have special-needs coaching for students with differing learning abilities?

We have a team of Special Educators, which supports the needs of students with differing learning abilities. Inclusive education is something the school has taken on consciously.
