In the year 1962, a group of concerned parents set out on an inspiring journey with nothing but a dream: a dream to create a new, exciting and brighter world for their children through an alternate progressive system of education. There were obstacles, but the passion to establish a new path overcame these, and the Bombay International School was born. BIS is a pioneer in integrated learning, where the curriculum has no boundaries, and children are exposed to a stimulating environment to ‘learn by doing’.
At BIS, innovative teaching and active learning is a way of school life. The curriculum includes a wide range of subjects across many disciplines. It is approached from both, a local as well as a global perspective, using pedagogical principles of learning by inquiry and investigation.
With an inquiry-based pedagogy as the foundation, BIS has successfully established and managed a Pre-Primary to Grade 10 ICSE programme. A commitment to offer the best international practices at BIS was fulfilled when we could introduce the option of International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme to our existing students from Grades 8-10. We have also successfully established the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) in Grade 11 from July 2011.
The BIS curriculum emphasizes non-academic activities, community engagement and cultural programmes that provide students with opportunities to apply skills learnt in the classroom.
A parent is an important participant in the BIS community and helps in many spheres of school life. Parents contribute their time and knowledge, and are valuable resources with varied perspectives to enrich the education process.
At BIS, while academics continue to be important, we also believe in developing the responsible ‘global citizen’- one who is able to take on challenges with dignity. We, therefore, encourage participation in various international student programmes which promote a greater understanding of international issues:
